We see it on home decorating shows, and certainly if you are house hunting, you have undoubtedly seen the sought after “updated kitchen”. This quintessential kitchen will have its trademark granite countertops, upgraded cabinetry, and of course, stainless steel appliances.
For a while now, Stainless Steel has been the “it” finish for appliances. It has especially gained huge popularity in the last decade. Despite this, some experts say its reign is ending. Many renovation specialists believe stainless steel appliances will “date” the kitchens from this era, similar to the lime green appliances of decorating past.
According to Consumer Reports magazine, there was buzz at the recent Kitchen & Bath Industry Show in Chicago that the new “it” finish for appliances may be a new, updated version of classic white. Next year, Whirlpool will roll out a brand new Ice Collection, which seems to be getting the attention of many designers. This updated white collection has a glossy sheen that almost has the look of glass. There is also a Black Ice finish with a similar sleek look.
Given the current popularity of stainless steel appliances, it will be interesting to see the day we look at the beautiful kitchens of today and say, “look at those stainless appliances, what a 2000’s kitchen.”
